Resolution (DPI) of the Engraver.

This laser engraver supports resolutions of 200, 250, 300, 500, 600, and 1000 dpi.

Higher resolution generally produces a sharper image. However, some porus material actually cuts/engraves better with a lower resolution. Also, sometimes the higher resolution is not required. This is why you have a number of choices for the resolution.

The laser beam width is about 5mil (.005 inches) - this in essence is the diameter of your cutting tool. In standard mechanical rotary engravers, you need to compensate for the tool diameter, normally offsetting the cut path by the radius of the particular cutting tool. The 5 mil diameter of the laser beam is narrow enough that the tool width is no longer a concern. The thickness of a typical piece of paper is about .0025 inches (2.5 mils).
